Pulled Pork Crockpot Recipes
Recipe: The Best Pulled Pork Crockpot Recipes
Pulled pork is made by cooking pork over a long period of time, using a low heat. The cut you should get is shoulder cut (which is also known as Boston butt) but you can use mixed cuts of pork if you wish. The meat gets really tender because of the long, slow cooking, and the weakened connective tissue allows it to be pulled apart, hence the name.
Pulled pork is found in many different countries, in different forms. In the United States it is usually slow-cooked over a charcoal barbecue, although you can use a regular oven or a crockpot to make it. In Tennessee it is usually made from a combination of the arm shoulder meat and the blade shoulder meat, and served with a tomato BBQ sauce. In North Carolina it is common to use a whole hog or mixed cuts of a whole hog, and the pork is served without sauce or in a vinegar-based sauce.
The best pulled pork crockpot recipes are often served simply; the pork is served by itself in a sandwich or bun. The following recipe is suitable for a three or four quart crockpot. If you have a bigger one, you can double all the ingredients except the BBQ sauce. Increase the amount of the BBQ sauce to twenty one ounces. You can make it in advance if you like, but keep the vegetables and dressing separate until you are ready to serve it, and then toss everything together. Celebrating The Lowly Pig
Pork is a much maligned meat. Even without religious or cultural dietary restrictions, some people refuse to partake of the pig’s bounty, claiming the animal is dirty, or the meat may be tainted.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Yes, when kept outside, hogs do tend to wallow (or waller, depending on which part of Mason/Dixon line you happen to be on) in mud. Yes, they seem to enjoy it. However, it is not because they like the dirt. They sunburn. A pig’s skin is very close to a human’s. They do not have hair to protect them like a dog or a cat. Selective breeding has gotten rid of all but some bristles down their back and they are without benefit of any SPF 50. Sunburns hurt. Mud does not.
Pigs are omnivores. Meaning they will eat most anything that is put in front of them. For thousands of years, as long as people have been keeping pigs, they have been the garbage disposals for humanity. If the “swill” (the un-lovely name for the refuse that is tossed in their troughs) is freshly cooked, there is no danger. However, if it is raw, there is a risk of giving the hogs whatever diseases may be carried by their food. This was the origin of the Trichinosis parasite. The Trichina worm is microscopic, can live in the flesh of the animal, and can contaminate humans if the meat is undercooked.
This does not sound like much of a defense does it? Just keep going.
Modern pig farmers or pig improvement companies,” no longer raise their swine outside They are kept in climate-controlled barns, where they are fed solely on grains. The meat is much leaner than in generations past, and almost white, instead of the grayish red of a free-range hog.
So, modern pork is safe. It has less fat and calories than white meat chicken or turkey. If you cook it right, it tastes good. People make the mistake of overcooking pork until it is close in texture to a piece of shoe leather. It is only necessary to cook it until it is done, not cremated.
Mexican cookery makes great use of pork. There are carnitas on every menu. Chorizo was a pig in a former life after all.
So, let’s cook us some pork.
Slow Cooker Pork Loin

Clay Crockpot Chicken Recipes
Some of the best meals come from crockpots. The advantage of preparing the ingredients and layering them in the clay dish of the pot is that the meal can cook all day and be delicious and ready to eat when you get home. The process of layering potatoes, carrots, onions, seasoning, and meat will almost make you feel like an artist and when you get ready to put on the lid it will be nice to see the colorful, decorative pattern you have made.
How fortunate to live in an era where we have so much help with so many tasks. Even with cooking, we have stoves, electric griddles, barbecue grills of many types, electric blenders and mixers, pressure cookers and slow cookers, commonly called crock pots. Pressure cookers and slow cookers are quite different. A pressure cooker, as its name indicates, relies on pressure, has a locking lid with a release valve, and depends on liquid hotter than the temperature of boiling water. Slow cookers rely on a loose lid and low temperatures, so boiling does not happen.
Vapor rises, condenses on the inside of the lid, and drops back down into the food, keeping it from drying out and allowing the food to be cooked a bit longer without spoiling the recipe. Cheaper cuts of meat will become tender inside of a crockpot. When it comes to safety, there is no scalding steam to burn the cook when the lid is lifted, as has happened with pressure cookers.
You will find that crockpot recipes call for less liquid than oven or stovetop recipes, where the water escapes the pan and boils away. This is because the liquid does not escape the pot, thanks to the lid and the design of the appliance. The more practice you get at making crockpot recipes, the more confident you will get at taking some of your favorite oven and stovetop recipes and lessening the liquid so you can cook it in the crockpot.

Your crockpot is going to become a good kitchen friend that will encourage you to try many different cooking adventures, such as crockpot chicken recipes.
You will find many different types of crockpot recipes when you are looking at various sites. Always be sure to follow the directions to get the best results. It will seem different using less liquid and it is important to remember that as long as you see moisture on the lid dropping back down into the ingredients, there is liquid in the pot.
The advantage of not cooking on a hot stove, being able to fix a good meal even while you are doing something else, and the minimal cost of using a crockpot are all excellent reasons to use it more often. No matter which foods are your favorite, you should be able to find at least one or two crockpot recipes for them and most of the crockpot recipes are very easy to follow and prepare.

Crockpot White Chicken Chili Forever
Preparing the ingredients for crockpot recipes can sometimes take more time than you originally planned. The age-old phrase referring to many hands making for light work is certainly true when it comes to some of the dishes you will find while looking at the recipes. More and more the idea of making family time is becoming popular again and what better place and thing to have the family work together at than the kitchen with everyone helping to make the meal?
There is at least one task for any age group and even the baby can help by sitting in the high chair cheering on the bustling kin. Four year olds can get needed fresh vegetables out of the refrigerator. Eight year olds can wash the vegetables and fruits. Ten year olds are usually tall enough to reach the spices, and can read well enough to identify them. Tweens and teens can peel carrots, onions, apples, and potatoes, and often can cut them into the right size for the recipe.
Since it is always a good idea to trim and brown meat and chicken in a skillet before adding it to the crockpot, one of the adults can handle that project. Do you have a budding artist in the family? They will love doing the part where the ingredients are layered in the dish. Those who have learned measuring will be good candidates for measuring out spices and the liquid.
Timely Chili And White Chicken
One of the best parts about many crockpot dinners is that the vegetables can be prepared ahead of time. If someone has to leave the house before the rest of the family, the carrots, celery, and onion can be prepared and sealed in a plastic dish until everything is ready to go into the crockpot. Utensils, spices, bowls, and cans of ingredients, such as soup and evaporated milk, can be laid out on the counter ready for use the next day.
There are many different ways each member of the family can take part in preparing the meal, which makes the process easier on you. It is especially helpful when each person does their own cleanup, and it could possibly result in a bit more appreciation for mom. The overall benefit is that your family will know what is needed to prepare a crockpot dinner and that they can do it, when needed.
When you decide on which crockpot recipes you will be trying, such as chili or chicken, make note of the time needed for cooking. If you start the slow cooker at 11 in the morning and the recipe calls for 7 hours, it is going to be hard to wait until the meal is cooked. It is important to give the ingredients all the time the recipe calls for.
The aroma wafting through the house will catch the attention of family arriving home before 6 in the evening and start the advent of hunger pangs. Sometimes it is better to start the meal earlier, because it is nearly impossible to burn the meal if it is in the crockpot an extra hour, and the food will be done at an earlier time. Enjoy teaching the children the joy of cooking and sharing a crockpot family event.
